|
I've been working on an extremely enhancedversion of b2 for a personal site I'm working on, and a few days ago I thought that I might just release the entire package for anyone who might want to use it. A few features I've either put in already, or will shortly be putting in:
- My b2customfields hack, which allows you to add custom fields to each post, such as moods, the music you're currently listening to, or any of a number of different things.
- An emotions manager, to allow you to manage dynamic emotions (I don't know what else to call them) from the control panel. Example:
Quote: | Feeling...like chicken tonight!
Wanting...Tylenol
Liking...Evanescence
Hating...the war
Listening to...Stone Temple Pilots - Revolt
Reading...Red Rabbit - Tom Clancy
Watching...Bourne Identity |
and etc. You can create, edit, and delete these from the control panel, and add them to your template with a simple tag: <?php get_emotions(); ?>
The ability to create password protected posts, so that in place of a post there is a form asking a user to enter a password in order to view the post. You may assign different passwords to different posts, so that only selected friends/browsers that you tell the password may read them. A good privacy safeguard.
Another simple tag, <?php contact_info(); ?>, which takes a login name paramater and automatically displays all of the contact information for that user.
An integrated small-scale photo gallery, with all the expected features: categories, automatic thumbnail generation, comments, descriptions, etc.
An integrated link manager, similar to the one that is already released.
A built in guestbook, again with all of the expected features.
Polling capabilities, so you can create and archive polls in your site.
As you can see, it's a massive undertaking. The photo gallery won't be done for some time, probably several releases before I do that. But, it's definately in the works, probably 75% done for the next release, and I wanted to put it up for feedback and suggestions. Screenshots coming soon! _________________ - Mystis

Wow! This whole package sounds like a great idea! I like your idea of the b2customfields, very useful, which I want! Your goals are very idealistic for a WHOLE BLOG, not just a blogging script! Great job so far! Remind me when it's all finished by PM, I can't wait! |

That's the idea A 'site in the box', so to say, for the bloggers that don't know their way around PHP. I spent hours searching for something like this when I first started out on the net, but now that I know my way around PHP, I'm just giving back If you're interested in b2customfields right now, and you don't want to wait, then clickity _________________ - Mystis

Great job! It must have taken you a long time. Personally, however, I don't need all those features for my personal site. I wouldn't want extra features that I won't be using to take up extra space.
It would be wonderful if you could provide separate downloads for each of those feature. _________________ Michael P.

Wonderful! I especially like the protected posts!
I would love to see a way to have no comments on a post, an ability to turn them off just for one post, not all of them! Maybe a way to have someone have to register to comment, like pMachine does. That would be excellent!
Also, intergrated last 5 comments, or however many you want to show!
Sounds like you have a great start though!
Keep us updated, looks like the board will be here for a while now!

Sara,
Do you know about my "latest n comments" hack? You can use that for now... if you want. _________________ Michael P.

there's one hack i want to and probably will work on is an array of certain phrases or names to be automatically convert into links on the output. one thing i don't like about b2 is it converts the smily shortcuts before the message is stored into the database. that means the smilies are assoicated with your post no matter what. the way many forums do is they convert the smilies into images after getting the post from the database. that way you can have control to turn off smilies for certain entry.
i want to do that. but instead of smilies, just a list of certain phrases you wish b2 to automatically link. like if you talk about a certain site or a certain friend a lot in your posts and you don't want to have to put the links repeatedly, the output can do it for you automatically. of course you should have the option to turn it off for certain entries or overwrite it in someway in case you are talking about someone else who has the same name as your friend.
just my idea of a hack. if you want to make a more enhanced version, you can include it. _________________ http://pure-essence.net

Pray bung in the following "most wanted" features:
1. Ability to choose a seperate set of "options" for each category. I mean the option of the number of posts per page (paged), formatting etc.
2. Ability to painlessly "include" multiple b2(3)'s in tables on the same page just by "<?php include(); ?>" and it should work without hassles - comments and all.
3. A control panel where you alter your formatting and look of the blog pages by changing the parameters in a form and save; and Bingo! all are changed the way you want it.
Ok, 'nuff for the time being! :-)
Regards

w-o-w. I'm majorly interested in the protected post feature. Filters are a real pain for me. |

Two questions...
How's it coming?
... and ...
Will you be writing an "upgrade" from the current b2?

_________________ bigSimon |

I think the one thing Im looking forward to is the b2customfields! If it was already installed, I would have all of that hastle!
Wont all of these new features begin to make b2 into a portal system? _________________ Check this out! The ULTIMATE site! |
