As matters stand now, i think there is need for continued development of b2. Since michel has been gone a period of time (and is back now as far as i can gather) we need new versions of b2, instead of al these hacks. Nice though they may be, it's still no b2.

The project on sourceforge is still there, so that needs some attention. Get those hacks consolidated into b2, then into the cvs and release a new version! Noone is going to use b2 because they want to install multiple hacks just to get stuff working to their liking.

So, in my humble opinion, the b2 project is lacking two things:
- the organisational part, who is running b2? One person here is not enought (see what Michels absence did to the development of b2)

- *templates*! Man, it's impossible to extend b2 with your own pages while preserving the menu (for instance). This is something that should go into cvs a.s.a.p. imho

Now i don't want to sound like wanker, i'd even like to be of some assistance since i'm a professional php coder for a living. But there is no way that i'm going to invest time into developing b2 further if there is no organisation that is running b2...

At http://www.cafelog.com/index.php?p=499&c=1#comments i still don't see anything that hints at the return of Michel. That his homepage sais that he'll be back in a few days doesn't say anything. Could you tell me the modification date of the index.html? But i can see that as long as Michel is gone b2 is less effective as i could be... Sad

Or maybe he's just a little busy with non-b2 things. I for one am just happy he's okay, and I really wish people would get of his back. There is plenty of development going on in no less than three subprojects, so check one of those out if you're anxious.

I agree with allusion. After all, b2 is a freeware.

Sure enough, b2 is freeware... but is should be maintained... and thats not the case at the moment. b2 deserves to be maintained, all hacks in the main tree... otherwise people will choose some other blog over b2 becouse it isn't maintained. That, more than anything else, Michel doesn't deserve.

Well, everyone has a point.

First, I agree that we should let Michel get back into whatever he wants to do and I'm glad that he was ok. I thought maybe everyone was getting angry and he was really missing. I am all for giving a little time to post, etc.

Secondly, although everyone here has reassured people that b2 is still in development, the idea that the founder was missing and things weren't 'maintained' has been on other boards/blogs I've read. I keep seeing threads where people say they've thought about b2 and didn't want to use it b/c the founder was missing, development was just hacks (hell, look at the main cafelog page where everyone complains that the b2 release doesn't automatically include the IE cache fix), etc, which is a real shame b/c I've constantly promoted b2.

I, obviously, am not avoiding the product, but reassurance in development, bug tracking, version releases, etc will remove doubt and bring in a new fan base. I haven't downloaded it in a while so I don't know what has changed, but I have read everyone's comments here. This is why I was kinda hoping Michel would just pop in and say something like "I would like someone to take it over" or "v1.0 is back in development" etc.

It would be nice to have a team, so that these drop-dead periods can not happen... ("Continueing development of b2"). But i'll way a few weeks... see if Michel turns up.... Smile

Please pay attention before you post..

You know, I've been very quiet about this "Michel is gone" "b2 is dead" shit. So in light of the fact that I have been so quiet about it, I'd like to now tell you all to SHUT UP!

Falsepoptart or whatever your name is, please read the announcements..

I guess this thread belongs in Chat Away now... I'm also not for the bashing of b2 (i'm in these forums all day looking for cool stuff and adding things) but there is a point in having a team doing development and announcing stuff whenever possible.

I pointed out to people on the cafelog.com page that Michel is back (since he posted he was) hoping that people wouldn't flee for stupid reasons. i even keep checking his main site for more announcements. But just like you'd have moderators in your forums to help out and take the load off of you, I think Michel could use that help for the future now. With any project, you don't want 1 person working his a$$ off while everyone complains, and then he takes a vacation and everyone freaks out. I think it just would be helpful to have a team that can make announcements.

He's probably in contact with people now or figuring things out. and no, b2 is not dead, i hate seeing that as much as you do.

Actually, I've been seeing him online quite a lot lately.

Actually, I think it was really great that michel created such a great core for the b2 script. You can really do heaps with just a bit of extra code here and there and then you have these new functionalities. Like you see with all those hacks...

No need to get derogatory here. It's just software for fun and hobbies. Don't need to call people names like back in the schoolyard days.
