Hi,

Since it seems like b2dev may be gone (forever?), and since right now there seems to be a serious lack of organization of b2 hacks and mods, I was seriously thinking about quickly putting together a site for downloads of b2 mods, hacks, templates, and discussion, etc. The site could conceivably be online fairly rapidly, maybe within a few days or so (At least in a preliminary form).

I was wondering if anyone thought this would be a worthwhile project or not.......How many people use b2? Do people need a resource like this? It seems like b2 is a great piece of software, but it seems like Michael V is otherwise occupied for the time being, and b2 is getting bodyslammed by other weblog software(eg MT--perl, blech), and I think one crucial difference may be the lack of any centralized place for resources. Any feedback would be appreciated.

How many people use b2?

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22powered+by+b2%22
Google finds 138,000 with that. So figure at least 50,000 'real' pages...

Hi!
First of, I don't think it's a good idea to "separate" the community.
This forum is the best database for hacks and support at the moment, another site would just destroy that.

And there're rumors in the anouncement board michel v would be back in no time.
(Even though there're also rumors he was kidnapped by aliens... *g )

Oh, and

Well, I guess that's the answer:

P.S.: On the other hand, it would be quiet useful to have a nice FAQ and everything.
But don't let it end up like ikonboard.com, where they've a new layout every two months but absolutely no organisation.
One thing is for sure: One should be very careful with setting up new sites.

Yeah, I understand what you're talking about when you say a new site can divide the community. I was not planning to do make a fork of b2 or anything, really I was thinking more a place for themes, plugins, etc. that people have made.

The forums are good, but there's no centralized place (that I'm aware of) for downloads of complete, more or less 1.0 version plugins (e.g. the print function, the pda plugin, the link manager, etc). All of these are great hacks, but finding them can be a chore, esp. for a newbie.

Anyway, I hope Michael comes back Smile

I think a theme site would be cool.

The site would have themes for download, with screenshots of each one, and a way to upload themes.
also ratings would be cool.

Better than a screenshot would be a live demo i.e. like on the phpbb.com theme page.

Well...
If you're going to make that site, could you try to make it "localized"?
FAQs in different Languages, perhaps even different frontends....
Just an idea...
