His provider for hosting, me, wouldn't shut off the hosting account. |

That was on 02, now it's 16 - 2 weeks later. Please post what you were going to post!
If noone can take charge of b2 it will be forked.. hope that doesn't happen, with with a project leader nowhere to be seen it's inevitable. _________________

It's already been forked. In several directions. |

Well, is anyone willing to step up and take charge of one of the forks then? I'd be willing to contribute to getting a new fork better-established, e.g. setting up forums and a nice homepage. I don't know enough php/mysql to do it myself, but I would be willing to participate. |

it's likely that the people who have forked their own version of the code -are- in control of them. If those things haven't been done, and those people haven't asked for help, maybe its because they don't want them done yet.
The forums here seem to work. Indi isn't likely to turn off Michel's hosting...
Maybe the right thing to do is to find the people who are working on variants and ask them directly if there is any assistance you can give? |

Yeah, I'm sure you're right about people being in charge of their own forks. What I'm saying is that right now there doesn't seem to be any centralized place (that I know of) where there is an active project being worked on and updated. If I'm wrong, please let me know where I could find one......Cafelog.com could easily serve this purpose again but it's just not being updated. And not to take away from Michael and this forum, they're great.....But from a pragmatic perspective, it's just kind of sad to see a great project like b2 sort of dying on the vine.... |

I'll believe that this project is "dying on the vine" when I stop seeing a new user registered for the forums every time I come here. That discussion has been had repeatedly.
Can't find a centralized place? So make one... You're the guy who put up the poll about it. You appear to feel that it is a Good Thing. Be like Nike and Just Do It. |

Nothing is dying on the vine. Authors of software, particularly freely available software, often need to take breaks away from their development work to focus on aspects of their lives that are ultimately more important. I certainly know this is true for me. |

Whoa....MAybe "Dying on the vine" sounded a little harsh, but I still think that the project would benefit from active development...I'm not disparaging Michael or his reasons for not posting to the site at all. His reasons are his own, and I thank him profoundly for doing the work he has already done. I'm familiar with the process of free software development, and I'm aware that oftentimes the developers' personal lives (or their real jobs) come first. In any case, that isn't really the issue I'm concerned about.
The reason I put up the poll on the other thread is because I'm honestly interested in whether people think it would be necessary or even a good thing.... If people think it 's not necessary (like maybe indiboi, for example), then I probably don't want to Be Like Nike and Just Do It or whatever....I was just sensing some unhappiness from previous posters ......
Anyway. Maybe, maybe not. LAter dudes. |

Gigablog isn't a fork of b2 and shares no common code... I'm making it from scratch, and I'm just here to share ideas, and borrow a few too
Not sure when a release will be. _________________

well it's been a while... it is now mid July. wonder if b2 will stick. I guess that I will have to dev on my own if it disappears.
I could use a good project to get my hands dirty in PHP. _________________ --
