Long story but I'll try to make it as short as possible. I started out with Blogger, got disgusted with that and switched to Moveable Type. After a few months I had a huge problem with MT, couldn't figure out how to fix it and couldn't get any help. I briefly tried pMachine, got it installed with some help but it blew up before I could try to learn to use it. So I just decided, screwitall and switched to plain HTML even though I knew nothing about it beyond a few basics. Before long I figured out enough HTML and CSS to put up a very nice looking page if I do say so myself.
Well, everything was working beautifully for several months but this week something happened with my hosting company - I'm not sure what exactly but they're gone and so is my website and probably my domain name too.
So I've been looking for a new host and I found one that looks pretty good (although I don't really trust any of them anymore) and amoung the features they offer they listed B2. That's why I'm here. Right now I have just one question. How easy to use is B2 for a very non-geeky person who only knows a little bit of HTML but nothing at all about PHP, MySQL or any of those other scary acronyms? |

its very easy if you use something that installs b2 for you (fantastico). If you need help installing it I'd be glad! I'm on MSN, AIM, and constantly checking emails all day.
I agree with yuchy ^-^ notepad is my hero. |

They said something similar about Movable Type and it was fine until it blew up; then I had no idea how to fix it and couldn't get any help. That's when I decided I never want to use anything that I don't know all the inner workings of. I guess what I should have asked is: Is it possible to learn PHP and the other inner workings of B2 in a reasonable amount of time? |

Truthfully, I know the minimal amount of PHP there is to know, next to none. I'm still surviving and nothing bad has happened yet. |

Lynn, you don't really need to know php at all to use b2. The only things you'll need to edit are spelled out for you in the b2config file, and if you do want to change of the tags in the index file, the options are all listed for you in the readme.
I didn't know php at all when I started using the program over a year ago, and I managed to install it from scratch. I hacked the program to bits following the instructions in threads on this forum, and ended up learning enough php through that to write my own bare-bones scripts.
I think you should do just fine with b2. _________________ ~^Rickie Beth^~

you probably wont look at this but here goes anyway.........
so long as you get a backup of your database regularly and keep it safe on your local machine you will have everything you need to get it up and running again with the content intact in a matter of minutes should your hosting go tits up:) _________________ check the Blog out ......... |
