Most of the times when someone says they can't login, I ask what browser they use, and 99% of the time the answer is: IE 6.
This browser is pure evil, but I know most of you won't switch to a better one just because I say so.
So what to do ?
On my side, the thing to do is to find just what the F*** is wrong with IE 6 and cookies, and use QUIRKS to make b2 work in this pathetic excuse of a browser without any problem.
This should be addressed in a later release.
On your side, you can try several methods if you can't login:
- delete your cookies, see if you can login
- go to the Security options of IE, and add your site's URL or domain name to the list of Trusted Sites, see if you can login
- add a P3P policy to your website. I can't guide you with that, check Microsoft's documentation about what they expect you to do in order to have cookies working all the time on IE 6, instead of 'only when they fancy working'
- if you can login to other b2 installations on other sites, log out from all of them, and see if you can login on yours then - I know this sounds weird, but sometimes IE 6 has a bug like that
- use a browser that works, has a consistent behaviour (I wonder why some people use IE 6 and can login from somewhere but no from somewhere else...), and doesn't bring down the whole system when it crashes
But PLEASE do not post one more 'I can't login' threads, because the problem is quite always the IE 6 browser...
If you still have a problem after you tried every method I gave, feel free to reply here and include as much information as you can: at least which browser and operating system you're using, and the URL of the site. |

Having the login problems not only with ie 6 but also with opera and konqueror i figured the reason must be found elsewhere. After setting register_globals = On in php.ini everything works fine. |

found another probelm with IE6: it doesn't let you log out. You have to delete your cookies. I would use another browser, but I like auto-complete _________________ eggatron.net |

I really don't understand your problem with IE 6. I have it installed on several machines, both servers and clients. I have moved to a news program named pMachine, and have no problems.
This is not ment to be a dig, but simply point out that you might re-think you coding techniques. I actaully develope software on large IBM mainframes, and have to go threw what IBM calls enhancements all the time. I use the same techniques as the pMachine group, and find changes, enhancements, and fixes, very easy. |

I am a IE 6 user, and I find nothing wrong with it. It is a much better an more stable browser for those running windows, like me, and I don't have cookie problems with it. It's always netscape that has a problem with logging me in using cookies, so I doubt IE6 is the problem. |

the problem with IE 6, is that if you program your site to look good in IE 6 it won't look as great in any other browser, so just a cautionary word, make sure your code is validated ;) |

that's why I have a IE and netscape version of my site. I particularly think it's annoying to make two different versions for 2 different browsers. Everything looks fine in IE, but netscape seems to mess it up. So .. thats why many people think netscape sucks. But it could just appear differently in netscape because the code isnt "validated". So, why does everything look better in IE then netscape? |

I've been a IE guy since waking up at 3 in the AM to download IE4 before the rush hit. Since then, I've had very few problems with it, and even less problems with it and b2.
And, BTW, b2 is one of the, if not the best, blog publishing pieces I've ever used. And the price fits my budget very well _________________ When you need a frag, I will be there... |
