I think I'm going to be upgrading to WordPress or b2evolution so that I can have the latest version of stuff (sercurity patches, etc.)
So, I have a few questions:
- Which is more similar to b2, both in interface and database structure? I have quite a few hacks that I will be modifying to work with whatever I upgrade to and the less work I have to do with those, the better.
- Which is better in your opinion?
I am the only poster on my blog and don't require multi-blog support nor multi-skin support.
So far I'm leaning towards WordPress, but I just thought I'd ask around first.
Any other comments you have would greatly be appreciated. _________________ http://www.viper007bond.com
If you haven't already installed b2, I advise you look into WordPress or b2evo instead as b2 is dead. |

Wordpress (imho) is what you would most likely need. b2evo is (imho, again) bloated with features that the average blogger (i.e. me) would want.

Wordpress is pretty similar to b2 as far as the interface. I don't exactly remember the db structure of evo.
I've installed a copy of wordpress, and got all of the hacks that I had with b2 working (with the exception of the private entries, but that's now available in the newest release of WP).
For the simple blogger like me, who only needs the bare necessities, I would use WordPress. I actually plan on upgrading to WP later on (unless things change), I haven't done so yet, because I couldn't get the DB to convert, so I'm going to wait a while as I "fill" my current DB. _________________ No more support from me. Goodbye!
Go upgrade to WordPress, you'll find better support there. |

I am running b2, and since b2 development is dead, I was looking at wordpress. What features do wordpress not have yet (if any) when compared to b2?
Any feedback would be very appreciated.

WordPress is b2 plus some
&
b2evolution is b2 plus some
WordPress and b2evo seem to be going somewhat different directions. I've been wrestling with the question of which direction to go with them. I guess my tendency is to go in the middle, but that's not available. Please keep in mind with the below comments that I haven't actually used any of these products.
evo seems like it is great for the bright friendly environment with all sorts of features to keep a geek happy and that's me. Plenty of room to expand, etc. It also, from what I can tell, is only one developer doing what he wants. That may be a mis-understanding, but that's how I understand what is said at the evo site.
WordPress seems to be going for a more professional and stable concept. This attracts me, but I have also notice a number of the parts on their website that will be there aren't and haven't been for awhile. It's just a "Coming Soon..." page. I think this is because they have been putting a lot of the development work into building the product rather than selling it so I don't suspect this to be that big of an issue. WordPress also seems to currently have less features, but the intention of adding them is there and they have been adding them regularly.
My mind isn't made up yet and I suspect I'll wait a little while yet. I'd like to hear more of the pros and cons you folks have. At the moment I'm leaning toward WordPress for it's professional comforts, but feel a little stifled by them at the same time. _________________ Buzzing Bye | CougarNet News |
