How do I prevent getting this error?

Line 303, column 169: document type does not allow element "div" here; missing one of "object", "applet", "map", "iframe", "button", "ins", "del" start-tag
...v id="varXYZ94" style="display: none"><br />

I checked it and it was refering directly to the "read more" span tag. Is there a possibility do do it with valid html?

Same problem here and I was searching through the different files to see where there was missing or extra code.

So now I'm hardly ever using this code, even though I searched for it and love to open more stuff in same window, but I want my pages to validate.
