When I suggest features, the world sits up and takes notice -- me.
How about enabling of URIs for their helper applications as in when I type in aim:TheBigWhiteHorse
a hyperlink to send instant messages to TheBigWhiteHorse comes up on b2? I've been thinking of this like a few days and if hyperlinks can be enabled on b2, then why not AIM, ICQ, Jabber, even Yahoo! Messenger?

Well, AIM and YIM could be possible, just like http and mail. All they require is a regex to find the strings 'aim:' or 'yim:' and change all the characters until the next space or punctuation into a link. This is likely to cause 'bugs' or undesired behaviour though.

hyperlinks are possible 'cos they're simple html - to send instant messages to AIM, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, etc, requires use of different protocols; each is different, some are proprietary. Could be possible, but very complicated.
Besides, what to do if user is not logged in?
Alternative: some services, like ICQ and Yahoo, provide some code that you can use on your webpage to indicate if you are online, and allow people to send you instant messages from your webpage. Try that, it might work.
