05.11.02

b2 0.6.1 is out, waiting for you to download it! : )
What's new:
  • TrackBack 1.1 (adds compatibility with newer MT versions' TrackBack).
  • RSS 1.0 (b2rdf.php) and 2.0 (b2rss2.php) feeds. For those who upgrade, writing to b2rss.xml is still supported but you're encouraged to just use b2rss.php.
  • b2 now generates Last-Modified and ETag headers based on your last post's date (very useful for aggregators).
  • Improved paged presentation when using next_post() and related tags.
  • Clearer PingBack excerpts
  • Various bugfixes, as usual.
Also, w.bloggar 3 is out too!

Erm, if your be is up to date with the cvs version, no need to download right?

Right, if you're using cvs, that is, not just downloading a nightly build, then you don't need to bother with the 'release' versions.

I've also noticed that it will not refresh properly. This makes for difficulty displaying any new entries in my shoutbox and Users Online portions of my sidebar. Is it a feature I should look into or a bug?

Ity is not clear. Is B2 the blog? Do we integrate it with blogger or other sites? I just want to have my users post their own articles, rather than only comments.

i also do not understand trackballs or pings. Just want a user-postable weblog on my exiting page, or a completely separate page. I also saw a refernce to chrontabs ore chron jobs but lost it. Is that something I need/ I do not know what they are. I host with Racknine.com

Thanks,

Paul

And I thought I was crazy! I noticed the issue with the refreshing and thought I broke something in my browser! So, is this a confirmed bug then?

OK, call me stupid, but after upgrading I'm not seeing updates to b2rss.xml (which I've renamed to index.xml to avoid breaking my feed to Syndic8†)†. Didi I miss something essential? update_rss() looks pretty much the same.

Help!! :†)†

OK, make that "my feed to Syndic8". Gotta watch those smilies...

Roy - email - url
OK, nevermind. You need to put '$use_rss = 1;' in b2config.php.

Shouldn't that be an annotated option?

Hey, you should add a feature that emails people on a mailing list everytime you post, like a subscriptions thing similiar to that of Xanga.com. Its nice because then people can get your posts write in their inbox and dont have to remember to visit your blog. I know some PHP and I plan on installing b2 as soon as I get home from vacation in a week. The PHP of b2 is much better thanthe CGI from GM...CGI sucks xD

I notice it only has refresh problems in IE 6.01. Seems to be fine in Netscape 7 and Mozilla. Haven't tested Opera yet.

Any thoughts?

What is b2 ?
A classy news/weblog tool (aka logware).

How does it work ?
You type something and hit "blog this" and in the next second it's on your page(s). You can write extended entries, or even entries that span multiple pages. You can also use BloggerAPI clients to post to your b2 weblog.
What's original in b2 ? Pages are generated dynamically from the MySQL database, so no clumsy 'rebuilding' is involved. It also means faster search/display capabilities, and the ability to serve your news in different 'templates' without any hassle.

Requirements ?
A server that can run PHP4, and a MySQL database (you can install b2 in an already existing database, and you can put several b2's in one database).

Where can I download it ?
b2 0.6 is the latest public release.
You can also visit the CVS server for the latest code, at your own risks.
See the ReadMe file for requirements and installation instructions.
