One question: has the update script been tested enough?
One advice: It would be probably better to include full step by step instruction set on how to back-up the db before and how to restore it in case of anything goes wrong.

of course it hasn't been tested enough. only three times: two on my offline, windows machine, and one online. the online test didn't include the db changes because they were already there. all it did was populate the count fields.

I say go for it. Sounds like the update scripts a good plan. If anything goes wrong then I'll just reinstall from scratch. But then I'm fond of the, if it breaks then format C: method
