Just wanted to wish Michel a very happy 24th birthday.
Thank you so much for b2. The bloggin' world would not be the same without it. ^_^

From my personal blog:
Sorry for the inconvenience, and for being absent on the support forums for that time. I'll try to get back to you all as soon as possible.
It's been more or less a terrible month.
To make a long story short, suffice to say health problems, depression, and lost contacts have brought me down for all that time.

The move to a new server completed fine, except for a problem on the boards: those of you who registered and found an activation link going to myserver.tld/phpbb2/, please replace this with tidakada.com/board/ and it will work.
(This problem is fixed now, it was introduced by updating the boards to phpbb 2.01.)

I just updated my Amazon wishlist, the first time I did that since december. Don't worry, future updates won't warrant a new post here.
Also, Paypal finally works with me, so starting from today I am accepting donations.
Just a friendly reminder though: b2 is not donation-ware, it's still totally free: you're free to donate or not to donate.
Actually, tomorrow is my birthday.
Update: Paypal button is there now.

I don't actually have B2 on my site, but I should and I'm thoroughly ashamed!
This is good stuff you guys (espesh honey-valued Michel), & once I've handled php, I'll give it a go!
I remember it back in its old days when it didn't really have colour or smileys.. times have changed!
xx
(Sorry if I'm not supposed to blog here & I'm dissipating the technical thing you got goin on so far..!)

From Marcelo Cabral:
I've just released the 2.0 version of w.bloggar, the most complete windows-based interface to any blog engine that supports Blogger API, including Blogger.com, MovableType, b2 and Nucleus among others.
The new features include, support to multiple accounts, post preview, colorized HTML colors, post same text to many blogs with one click, ping to Weblogs.Com, Find/Replace and much more.
Currently available in English and Portuguese (Brazilian), but soon all languages available on old 1.20 version will be ready to this new release.
The address to download it and read the news is: http://wbloggar.cjb.net

Oops, so many news this month.
Sorry for the lack of updates, everything's busy around me.
It'll get back to normal soon, don't worry. Development for CaféLog aka b2 v1.0 has started again.

Please do not email me about the register page on _this_ site, which isn't working.
This is NOT a bug in b2. I deactivated member registration here because you do NOT need to register here to download and use b2.
Any comment, email, forum thread about this will be deleted. Thanks for your understanding.

There was a bug in b2profile.php, because of a new behind-the-scene feature that didn't work yet and didn't let you edit your profile.
It has been fixed, and new builds are in the /releases folder.
Talking about builds, some of you have told me the zip file missed 3~4 bytes. This has been fixed, it was just because I uploaded it in Ascii mode by mistake.
So now everything's OK. We're close to a 0.6 release.

Read the announcement.
I wish I could have been, but I won't be there to reply to e-mails, forums, etc, this weekend.

THE FORUMS ARE BROKEN.
For some weird reason, all posts suddenly had a wrong timestamp: Unix timestamp 0, which is 1/1/1970; and some posts are listed as posted in 2010.
It might be a defect in the CVS version of phpBB2, or a booboo of my database, or it could be someone found a security breach in phpBB2 and exploited it here. In the sad event that it would be a security breach, I backed up every MySQL databases here, and will probably backup the files too.
In the meanwhile I'm going to re-install phpBB2, this time using the latest RC version instead of CVS. I'll try importing all users there manually, hoping it works as expected.
Please do not post in the forums before I re-install them.

The b2-powered blogs list has been updated. I removed a dozen blogs that were 404 or didn't use b2 anymore, and added a bit more than 30 blogs. I may have some links stored on other computers, so these may make further additions soon. If you don't see your b2 site there, feel free to e-mail me.
Note to users: if you request I add your site to the list, then stop using b2 some weeks after that, please have the courtesy of warning me so I can remove your link.

Thought I'd be back by wednesday but I'm spending more days with my family, and since I'll be moving next week, I'm not sure how much time I'll be able to spend on my own computer (living at a friend's for a month is not really handy). Enough time to fix some of the latest bugs in 0.5.2 and have it released, though.
As for the forums, I'm currently surfing them while I'm typing this in a cybercafé, and I'll try to reply to as many threads as possible. Also replying e-mails. Please bear with that situation, and enjoy the holidays too !

Someone got to stop this, for b2 is still copyrighted to me, there's no license to allow you to re-release it under your name, and I don't see thievery as a part of Linux values.
OK, solved.
Thank you for all your support, guys !

Off-topic, for my hostees on tidakada.com: I added a bit to phpMyAdmin's code so that you can all use phpMyAdmin on my domain.
This makes it possible for you to benefit of the quite frequent upgrades of this program once they're available. To use it, go there and login with your MySQL username and password. Since the passwords are stored as clear text in a cookie, make sure you use the logout button if you share the computer with other users.

This article by Beale Screamer is absolutely correct. I quote from here: Copyright was created as a policy that balanced the interests of authors, publishers, and readers. It was not intended to be a restrictive property right.
That's right, Michel -- you can put copyright signs, protect your code, demand for credit, but the original copyright laws say you can't. The end user can control whatever he wants. No one can stop him, even from making an exact copy, especially intellectual property -- and you can't say 'stolen' either. Microsoft managed to exploit this loophole when copyright wasn't such a big thing -- if Microsoft did it yesterday, it'd be bankrupt. Bankrupt.
Is plagiarism wrong? Yes. But you can't stop it, Michel.

I somehow made a booboo with my harddrive's MBR two days ago, and now I can't boot any Windows anymore. I'm beginning to just love Linux, but it's not as easy to code on this platform yet. I miss EditPlus2, but now that I found BLueFish and that I have installed a recent Apache/PHP/MySQL combo, things should be back to normal in a few days.
Also, to anyone who knows me on ICQ, please message me. I cannot import my contact-list from Windows and I don't remember all your e-mail addies. Other than that, things should be ok.

I read Michel's previous post and I got to Ana's site. Although I don't understand their language but I managed to reach her guestbook. To my suprise, it says there, [powered by b2]. A b2 guestbook? Gotta check this out.

Thinking of this, it'd be great if b2 could automatically put hyperlinks to URLs. Really.

Ian, I've been checking ShaoQi and yours. Both b2s suffered from the usual sign of unChModness of the template file.
To elaborate a bit on the permissions, most webservers actually run as "nobody". So cheking for perm 770 might never work unless the webserver is set to run as the logged user of the server or an user in an usergroup of this server. Both solutions are likely to provoke security holes and indiscrete peeking, this is why they're runned as "nobody". Someone comment me if I'm wrong, please.
Therefore, you've got to check for the permission for 'owner','group', but also 'others', which means checking each is set to 6 (read+write) or more (7, aka read+write+execute). And checking for >= 666 wouldn't help either. After all, 700 is more than 666 but makes a file accessible only to its owner...

No, we aren't sick of b2 on Lynx because that browser doesn't even support tables. And if I was to test everything on Lynx too it'd be a big big overhead, for no real benefit overall except the sheer satisfaction of not hearing Ian's complaints about b2 in Lynx. Also FYI the buttons work on IE, only not on IE Mac.
I fixed the templates bug in the releases, along with the 'blah' bug at install.

While on b2's page, I just clicked on the 'What's Related ?' tab in Mozilla and saw the Daily Doozer, a weblog I used to read daily almost one and a half year ago. Happy surprise that was, I didn't expect Dan Hon's site there

While I had no problem about it when his site was just some days old (I thought he would change design to something original), now it's becoming problematic.
A danish friend of mine made a translation of his disclaimer:
Termansen.dk is designed by Jakob Termansen, and made to be viewed in a resolution of 1024*768 with Internet Explorer 5.5+.
The page is made in PHP4 with Microsoft Frontpage XP and Notepad. You are welcome to contact me, if you want more information.
The things on this page must only be taken/re-used with accurate "source of origin", og best include a link to this page as well.

I especially like the bit that says "with accurate source of design", since he's using MY design + MY news script and not even linking it.
Mr. Jakob Termansen, if you haven't taken down this page by the end of next week I'm contacting your host. Have a nice day.
Thank you for taking down the design, mister Termansen.

A quick Hello to our readers from HotScripts.com ! (I re-listed b2 v0.5 after the bug-fixes, so we're back to first page, woohoo)
Unlike last time, you won't be allowed to test and comment the system here, however you're warmly welcomed on the forums, or the IRC channel.
And in other news, I have almost finished a GreyMatter import utility. That should have been a surprise, but I couldn't resist telling the info

This is hilarious, b2 is the first search result for 'greymatter blog powered' ! Don't you just love Google ?

Also, I don't know in the distribution file, but in the current site we're using there are no navigation links to the home page, let's say, from a post+comments page. I think some basic navigation links should be hardcoded into b2's engine.
